Marathoners using a specific fueling plan finished 11 minutes faster than those fueling by feel
A 2014 trial by Hansen studied 14 pairs of experienced marathoners, matched within 1% on a 10K time trial. One group followed a written schedule, the other fueled by feel.
The group fueling by feel averaged 38 grams of carbs an hour, finished in 3:49. The group with a schedule took in 65 grams an hour, finished in 3:38.
That’s an 11 minute improvement just by having a specific fueling schedule.
We built CarbRate to give you that plan…and more
CarbRate not only gives you an individualized race nutrition plan based on science, but tells you exactly how much and when to take while on the course and helps you train your gut, practice correctly and adjust your plan for race-day conditions.
A fueling plan drawn on your actual course
Tired of a fueling plan that tells you to take a gel at 40 minutes, when 40 minutes puts you halfway up a hill with no water in sight?
CarbRate places every gel and every drink on the real course you are running, using its actual elevation profile and the aid stations the race publishes.
So each feed lands somewhere you can actually swallow it: on a runnable grade, with water in your hand.

Built from your own numbers and preferences
Tired of fueling advice that hands you the same gel every 30 minutes it hands a runner 40 pounds lighter and an hour faster?
CarbRate builds your plan from your weight, your goal time, your measured sweat rate, what your stomach handles today, and the weather you will be running in.
Twelve questions, about four minutes, and every one of them has an answer for people who are not sure.

A fueling plan that changes when the forecast does
Tired of building a fueling plan in February and running a race that turns out twenty degrees warmer than the day you planned for?
From ten days out, CarbRate reads your race-day forecast and shows you exactly what a warmer or cooler morning does to your sweat rate, your fluid, your sodium and your finish time.
One tap updates the plan. Nothing changes behind your back.

CarbRate tells you exactly when to fuel during the race
Tired of doing arithmetic at mile 18 to work out whether you are behind on your gels?
On race day CarbRate counts down to every feed, tells you exactly what to take and where, and says it out loud over your music.
Nothing to memorize, nothing to check, and no math while you are running.

A training plan for your stomach
Tired of races ruined by stomach trouble or hitting the wall even though you took your gels?
CarbRate creates a week-by-week fueling practice schedule based on your fueling plan, scheduled workouts and long runs, and your current stomach tolerances.
Each week tells you which run to practice on, what to take, and how and what to adjust to make your gut and fueling plan stronger.

Your plan, built from the fuel you already train with
Tired of a fueling plan that says take a gel, when the gel in your pocket has 40 grams of carbohydrate and the one it was written for has 22?
CarbRate is built on 163 gels, chews, drink mixes, bars, real food and electrolytes, every one of them checked against its own label.
Pick what you actually carry and the whole plan re-counts itself around it: how many, at what times, and how much of your carbohydrate is already in your bottle.
