Vegan fuels that can hit 90 g of carbs an hour
Almost every serious race fuel is already plant-based; the question is which ones deliver the density and the 2:1 blend a trained gut needs.
The three-product answer
Precision Fuel & Hydration Carb & Electrolyte Drink Mix (PF 30/60)
- Caffeine-free: good for the early miles, before you take caffeine.
Maurten Drink Mix 160
- Caffeine-free: good for the early miles, before you take caffeine.
Precision Fuel & Hydration PF 30 Chew
- Caffeine-free: good for the early miles, before you take caffeine.
- ~3.0 per hour to hit your 90 g/hr target.
Why
Ninety grams an hour is the ceiling of what a trained gut absorbs, and it is only worth chasing if you have done the gut training. At that rate the glucose:fructose blend is not optional: glucose transport alone tops out around 60 g/hr.
What matters: high carbs per serving (so you are not swallowing four gels an hour), a 2:1 or 1:0.8 blend, and a drink mix carrying part of the load. Vegan status is a filter, not a scoring factor — most products pass.
The trap is starting at 90. Ramp across the long-run block from about 55 and let the gut catch up; the testing plan does this for you.
